ANTI-ALCOHOL CAMPAIGN

report photo

If you consume alcohol simply to feel good, or to avoid feeling bad, your drinking could become problematics.

Coconut Productions organise an anti-alcohol campaign on 5 of Mars 2011 from 3pm-8pm at Tottenham Chances 399 High Road London N17 6QN London.

OUR CHALLENGE? Rubbish bins will be out the building,we ask to everyone to bring a bottle of alcohol from their house to symbolise that day of Campaign.

Responses
SAVING £3BN AND ADDRESSING PUBLIC DRUNKENNESS
Public drunkenness cost the economy over 3 £bn per year but there is a simple non-governmental intervention solution.
1 Make the ‘drink’ industry establish and fund an ABTA style organisation.
2 That would encompass all alcoholic drink producers and suppliers/importers with an annual turnover of more than say £5m. So as not to penalise the small brewers/suppliers.
3 The amount ‘alcoholic drinks industry members’ paid into the fund would be set by their own organisation, not the government, and relative to the amount of costs charged to them/to reimburse costs, as in 3.
4 Cost would be charged to the fund would be those of Police, Hospital and ancillary services called to attend a situation based on street drunkenness.
Benefits
A. It would be self-regulatory and the government would not have to intervene.
B. Due to the financial aspect the industry, through the fund, would be ‘financially encouraged’ to ensure that the outlets selling their alcoholic drinks take a more socially responsible attitude
C. It would not affect the moderate drinker.
D. The government would not have to ‘take responsibility’ for irresponsible drinking
E. It would reduce the pressure on the police and ambulance services
F. It would encourage the alcoholics’ drinks industry to reduce supply/self-regulate the irresponsible pubs, clubs and supermarkets.
G. It would save the economy several £’Bn per annum with no set up cost to the government.
H. It would, at no cost to the economy, remove the scourge of drunkenness from the streets
I. It would reduce courts costs of having to hear drunkenness cases
J. I would reduce the late-night pressure on hospitals, nurses and staff.
K. Keeps politics out of the problem.
L. It would remove late night drunkenness from the street and improve the night life of towns
M. The cost of late night drinking would not have to be financed by the taxpayer.
While there are many aspects to clarify the above I believe that this principle of placing responsibly of those who manufacture the drinks to take responsibility for the action of those who consume rather than the remainder of the public having to pick up the costs.
This cannot be likened to car use. Late night drinkers go out to deliberately get drunk. Car drivers do not go out to deliberately have an accident! It is the irresponsible section of the public who go out to get ‘smashed’ are the ones this is aimed at.
